Whether in the heart of defence or as a makeshift goalkeeper, the one thing you were guaranteed with Dave Higgins was 100% commitment.
The Liverpool-born ex-Prenton Park favourite made 434 appearances for Tranmere during two spells in the 1980s and 90s, the second of which earned him a testimonial game.
And while 'Higgy' is unable to make Saturday's parade of former players on the pitch (2.30pm) due to work commitments, he contacted the Club to send his best wishes.
He exclusively told www.tranmererovers.co.uk: "II was there for ten years under John King and two years previously when Bryan Hamilton was manager and there are lots of memories and emotions for me. The Chris Malkin goal at Wembley when we went up was a big time for us.
"Personally, just playing football at a professional club was all I wanted to do and I achieved that for ten years.
"We had a great team, we were all mates. I got on with all of them, especially the other lads at the back like Steve Vickers and Mark Hughes. It was a team of lads who wanted to win. All our aims were in the right direction and John King was brilliant as our manager. He was a great man who would take you for what you were.
"The fans supported me a lot and I can't thank them enough. They spent their money to watch my testimonial and that meant a lot to me.
"I'd like to wish the team, Les and Shaun good luck for tomorrow. I'm sure the team will climb up the table and I hope the supporters enjoy tomorrow and the rest of the season."
To mark the occasion, the Club has reduced admission to just £12.50 for Adults and only £1.25 for Juniors in the Main Stand, Paddocks, Johnny King Stand and Kop Stand. Supporters are advised to arrive early for the game to avoid missing the parade at 2.30pm. Supporters wishing to take advantage of the special admission discount must purchase their tickets before 1pm on Saturday, 31 October. After this time the normal admission prices apply.
Ticket Office / Club Shop opening hours are: Monday - Friday: 9.30am - 5.00pm.
