Aaron Cresswell says he's benefitting from a summer talk with the Manager.
The left back spent most of last season as a substitute due to the form of Zoumana Bakayogo, but so far he has been an ever present in 2010-11.
He told www.tranmererovers.co.uk: "I didn't play too much last season. Zoom did well and kept his place and I couldn't really say much. Zoom was doing well so he deserved to stay in.
"The Gaffer pulled me in during the summer and told me I had to fight for my place. I thought I had a decent pre-season and I've just been taking every game as it comes since then. I feel I've done alright.
"I just need to keep plugging away, stay in the team and keep Zoom out. Hopefully if I do that it shows the team is doing well.
"You've just got to take your chance when it comes. If the Gaffer thinks you've done well then hopefully you keep your place.
The 20-year old says confidence remains high in the squad despite their back to back defeats.
He hopes Rovers can reproduce the away form seen at Walsall and Huddersfield this Saturday at Dagenham & Redbridge.
"The confidence is still there in the team. We didn't get off to the best of starts but we beat Walsall in the cup and then did well at Huddersfield. We lost the last two games but it is still early doors and we're confident.
"We just need to get a few points on the board and get away from the bottom four.
"At Huddersfield we defended well and kept our shape. We kept the crowd quiet and hopefully we can do the same again on Saturday."
