FA Youth Cup: Grimsby 0 Tranmere 1

Posted on: Mon 05 Nov 2007

Terry Gornell scored the only goal of the game late on to send Rovers through to the second round of the FA Youth Cup at Grimsby.

Youth Coach Shaun Garnett said: "It was win we deserved, the lads played very well and created a number of chances, particularly in the second half.

"We started the game slowly, but after 25 minutes we began to play the football we are capable of and Terry went close before half time.

"We carried on from where we left off in the second half and had chances for Terry, Josh Macauley and Ryan Fraughan.

"The goal came late on with a bit of luck that we deserved. The ball fell to Terry who was forced wide by a defender, but his shot took a deflection and went over the keeper into the net.

"I wouldn't single out anyone for praise as they all did well, but the back four in particular impressed me."

Tranmere: McWeeney, Denson, Taylor, Mitchell, Corrigan, Blundell, Moran, Beahon, Fraughan, Gornell, Macauley. Substitutes: Wilson, Kennedy, Richardson, Jones, Mackreth.
