Tranmere were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup after going down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.
In a close, competitive fixture, both sides defended well and neither keeper was overly tested throughout.
After Ryan Fraughan and Ash Taylor had gone close with early chances for Rovers, the visitors took the lead on 16 minutes when Daniel Broadbent found the top corner with a brilliant strike from 25 yards.
Just nine minutes later the score was level. Josh Macauley was released down the left wing and he cut inside his marker before shooting low past the keeper at his near post.
Fraghan came close to adding a second on 27 minutes when meeting Luke Denson's cross on the volley at the far post, while Terry Gornell found the keeper from 25 yards.
The second half saw the teams battling for dominance, with Huddersfield finding the breakthrough on 72 minutes, Broadbent netting his second with an excellent finish.
Substitute Dave Wilson tested the keeper for Tranmere late on but Huddersfield held on for the win.
