Tranmere Under-18s progressed to the second round of the FA Youth Cup with an extra time win over Darlington at the Darlington Arena.
Rovers took the lead on 65 minutes when Josh Macauley converted Ryan Fraughan's through ball, but four minutes later the hosts - who are unbeaten in the league this season - equalised.
The score remained at 1-1 after 90 minutes, with Shaun Garnett's side retaking the lead on 107 minutes through Jay Ashcroft.
Again Darlington equalised on 112 minutes but substitute Ross Rule netted the winner with just five minutes remaining.
After the match Garnett commented: "It was a good game. The first half was very even but we upped our pace in the second. To be fair to Darlington they came back at us but we kept going and finally got the winner late in extra time.
"I'm delighted for the players and hopefully they'll be rewarded with a home tie in the next round."
