Match Preview: Swindon Town

11 November 2022

After an early exit out of the F.A. Cup, focus quickly returns back to league action for Micky Mellon’s side who face a trip to face Swindon Town in Sky Bet League Two.

Rovers were previously on a superb run of form, flying up the standings in the fourth tier so Rovers will be keen to get back to winning ways this weekend to avoid dropping further away from the play-off places.

As for Swindon, they’re in good form and will be no easy match on Saturday afternoon after they’ve won three of their last four in Sky Bet League Two but will be looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat in the F.A. Cup as they too were knocked out in the first round.

They fell to a 4-0 defeat away at Stockport County which was their first defeat since mid-October when they were beat by Bristol Rovers in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Team News:

Reece McAlear will be missing for this trip after sustaining a slight knee injury during the week. Jordan Turnbull, Jon Nolan and Jake Burton should be available for selection after shaking off illnesses.

Luke Robinson, Joel Mumbongo and Charlie Jolley are all long term absentees.

One to Watch: Luke Jephcott

Born in Aberystwyth, Wales, Jephcott is on loan at Swindon Town from Sky Bet League One side Plymouth Argyle. After being with the Pilgrims since 2014, he made his debut in the third tier in October 2018 against Burton Albion.

In 2019 he was loaned out to Truro City where he made 18 appearances before spending twice within the first-team picture at Plymouth where he made over 100 appearances.

Now being back out on loan from Home Park, the Welsh youth international has enjoyed the early stages of his spell on loan at Swindon after scoring five goals and getting an assist in 12 games so far this season.

With the club sitting fifth in League Two and the 22-year-old being Swindon’s current second top-goal scorer behind Jonny Williams, he’ll be hoping to continue the goal scoring form and see his side finish the season in and around the position in which they occupy now ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Manager: Scott Lindsey

After the departure of Ben Garner in June 2022 who left to join Charlton Athletic, Scott Lindsey was announced as the new First-Team Head Coach.

He returned to the County Ground in 2021 as an assistant manager after being previously employed by Swindon from 2014 where he was manager of the Under 18’s following spells with Tamworth and Lincoln City.

His playing career was predominantly within non-league before moving into management and after being a coach at Lincoln where his contract was later terminated, he moved back to Swindon years later.

After a decent start, Lindsey is now looking to continue the good start to life in the main role at Swindon with his side sitting fifth in the fourth tier whilst sitting two points off the automatic spots.
