Post-Match Micky Mellon (Hartlepool)

29 April 2018

Manager's reaction to final league game of the season

Micky Mellon felt his Tranmere Rovers side played with some caution as they were defeated 2-1 against Hartlepool United at Prenton Park.

With next Saturday's promotion play-off already secured, the manager was pleased to get through the game without picking up any more injuries.

He said: "All credit to Hartlepool, they looked like a team who had nothing to lose, while at times, we looked like a team getting ready for next Saturday (play-off semi-final).

"We've got that out of the way, and thank god we've not picked up any more injuries, so we'll move on to Monday and have a good clear week of training and get prepared for Saturday.

"We've done well enough to earn a way of contesting a way out of the division and we'll be ready."

A stomach injury ruled Adam Buxton out of Saturday's game, while Connor Jennings also missed out as the manager explained.

"Connor Jennings is not well, so we'll see how he is over the next day or so.

"He's in hospital at the minute, so all our thoughts are with him getting well again more than anything else.

"That's football, injuries and illness happen, but that's why we keep people fit and the ones who want to play will get an opportunity now and we'll see how people go during the week."
