Carabao Cup
Tranmere Rovers vs. Walsall
Tuesday 14th August 2018
7:45pm at PrentonPark
Team News
Rovers go into their first cup competition of the season off the back of a win and a draw from their first two games.
Ritchie Sutton went off just before half time with a knee injury on Saturday and was sent for a scan after the game. He remains a doubt for this fixture.
Adam Buxton (double hernia), Liam Ridehalgh (knee) and Evan Gumbs (leg) will again be missing from the squad as they continue their recovery from injury.
Walsall seemingly have a clean bill of health going into this first round tie.
The Saddlers made 10 new signings during the Summer. Familiar faces Andy Cook and Josh Ginnelly
could feature back at PrentonPark as well as other former non-league players Chris Dunn and Morgan Ferrier after signing from Wrexham and Boreham Wood respectively.
Head to Head
Our first game against Walsall was in 1921 which saw The Saddlers prevail 1-0 winners. Our most recent clash came in 2014 when Rovers just missed out on the Northern Section Final in the JPT after losing on penalties at PrentonPark. Memorable wins include a 2-0 win at the Bescot Stadium in 2004 when Jason McAteer scored a screamer from 25 yards and then a 4-1 win in 2010 when John Welsh lobbed the keeper from 40 yards.
