Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon was pleased about a number of aspects after his side’s convincing 3-1 win against Morecambe.
Rovers secured back-to-back league victories over the Shrimps, with Cole Stockton, James Norwood and Jay Harris getting on the score sheet in front of nearly 7,500 supporters inside Prenton Park on Boxing Day.
Talking about the three goals and the importance of today’s win, the manager said in his post-match press conference, “The bottom line today was to just get a win and for obvious reasons, it builds the confidence again. We played ok at Bury but we didn’t get the result so it was important that in front of a big crowd we got things going and we can start building forward again for an important game on Saturday. The important thing is that we got the win today.
“Really pleased for Cole to get his name on the scoresheet. He works his socks off and he does a lot of work for the team that is required in order for us to function in the way we want to. He is a good physical presence in attack, his stats are very high for retaining the ball and it is important for us in the way we want to go and play.
“It was composed finish from James Norwood and he was disappointed he didn’t take any of his chances at Bury. We settled him down and said if you keep getting the chances, we will be pleased because he will take them at some other stage and that was proved to be true today, but it was a good bit of play initially from Jake Caprice.
“It is a great run from Jay Harris from midfield and we encourage them to do that. Jay is a brave lad and he will have thought about nothing else than winning the ball and he thankfully got us the third goal.
“It was a must win game today, it was tough, and we are pleased we got over the line.”
