Manager's Southport reaction

2 December 2018

Manager Micky Mellon spoke to the local media following Sunday's 1-1 draw in the FA Cup against Southport.

Jonny Smith's first half goal was cancelled out by Brad Bauress 30-yard strike with 20 minutes to play, as Rovers and the Sandgrounders have it all to do again later this month in a bid to reach the third round.

Speaking to the press after the game, Micky said: "We are still in the tie so that is the positive. We have got a game in the league before the replay so we will get the lads back in, rebooted and we will go again.

"It was a tough game and we were made to defend every time the ball goes up the pitch or every time a free kick goes against us. They have a big presence up front and their striker gave us a hard time.  It was difficult to get out but we will learn from it.

"We are still in the hat. Obviously you want to go through first time but we are still in the draw for the third round. We know we have to be better when we face them again and we will work on it.

"It was a proper FA Cup battle. The bottom line is that we are still in the hat for the next round."
