Friday Night Football Returns To Prenton Park

28 June 2018

Tranmere will play two Friday night fixtures at Prenton Park in the 2018/19 season with the games against Crewe Alexandra and Macclesfield Town both moving by a day.

The EFL League 2 fixtures were announced a week ago and the two clubs agreed to move the matches to allow Friday night football to return to Prenton Park.

Matches were played frequently on Friday nights in Birkenhead throughout the 1970s, 80s and early 90s, with Chairman Mark Palios and manager Micky Mellon both regularly competing a day ahead of the rest of the division during their playing careers.

Mark Palios said: “I'm delighted we're able to bring Friday nights back to Prenton Park this season, especially with one of the matches being against my old club Crewe Alexandra.

“They were always special nights as a player with big crowds and a great atmosphere and hopefully we can have a couple of great games against Macclesfield and Crewe this season.

“We know a lot of our supporters have been keen for us to try to bring back Friday night football and we're delighted that Friday night is Prenton night again, at least for two games.”

The new dates for the matches are:

Tranmere v Macclesfield, Friday 12th October, kick off 7.45pm

Tranmere v Crewe, Friday 8th March, kick off 7.45pm

We thank both Crewe and Macclesfield for their co-operation with the fixture changes.
