Tranmere Rovers have been drawn with Walsall in the first round of the Carabao Cup, as drawn live from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam this morning.
All eyes will be on Andy Cook, the prolific striker who helped drive Tranmere back into the EFL last season before signing for the West Midlands club in League One. It also brings the return of 21 year old winger Josh Ginnelly to Prenton Park.
Importantly, the game will be played at Prenton Park, with the knockout tie set to be finished on the night.
The two clubs last played on the 9th December 2014 in the Football League Trophy, with a 2-2 draw requiring penalties to separate the two sides, which Walsall edged 5-4.
The two sides have met often with a large portion of the last 15 years bringing multiple League One clashes between the two sides. Overall, since they first met in 1921, Tranmere have won 25, drawn 15 and lost 32, with the last win away in 2012.
Walsall finished 19th in League One last season, just five points above the relegation zone so it provides an intriguing clash of clubs and one which Tranmere will aim to mark their intent and ambition in the football league pyramid.
The game is scheduled to take place on the week commencing August 13th.
Ticket details to follow in due course.
