Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon spoke to media after Tuesday night’s 2-0 win at Oxford City in a FA Cup first round replay at Marsh Lane.
The boss hailed his players for putting in a professional performance against City and also reserved praise for TRFC’s opponents after the two first round matches between the two sides.
He said: “We wanted to do a professional job this evening and not create lots of turnovers. We wanted to keep a good shape and work from that and create turnovers for ourselves.
We knew we had good pace up front and we could punish them, and we did just that. We kept the party atmosphere under control but every credit to the boys, it was a terrific performance.
We knew when the chances came, we had to take them because every credit to Oxford City, they performed superbly over both the games and they should take a lot of credit. “
Tranmere Rovers will now play Southport in the second round of the FA Cup on Sunday 2nd December, 2pm kick-off at Prenton Park.
