St John Plessington’s will represent Tranmere Rovers and Tranmere Rovers in the Community in the EFL Girls Cup (U13s) regional finals at Stoke City early next year.
The school, local to Prenton Park, saw off 15 other schools to reach the final with more than 100 girls participating in the tournament.
The semi-final stage, which was formatted as a group with the top two reaching the final, saw Weatherhead High School, West Kirby Grammar, Upton Hall School and eventual winners, St John Plessington facing off against one other.
The standard of football was very good with some great skills on display from all four teams in a tightly contested group. St John Plessington and Weatherhead made it through to the final winning two games each and drawing with each other.
The final was very even with St John Plessington taking an early lead. Weatherhead battled hard to get an equaliser but were caught on the counter attack to concede another. As time ticked by Weatherhead grabbed a lifeline with a goal and pushed hard for another to force extra time. St John Plessington defended well till the end and greeted the final whistle with joy.
St John Plessington will now go forward to represent Tranmere Rovers in the area finals at the Bet 365 Stadium in early January. The next stage after that is the Northern regional final and then the national final being played at Wembley before the Checkatrade Trophy final.
