First ever TRFC FIFA champion!

8 October 2018

Tranmere Rovers’ first ever FIFA tournament, in partnership with GAME Birkenhead, was a huge success with supporters turning up in their numbers to play the popular video game.

The event, which was held in the Platinum Lounge, less than 24 hours after the first team’s dramatic 4-3 win at Morecambe, was played on the latest edition of the game series, FIFA 19.

Supporters were playing for the chance to win a limited edition TRFC version of FIFA 19 on PS4, and after a competitive group and knock-out round, 15-year-old Tranmere supporter Alex was crowned the first ever TRFC FIFA 19 champion.

He said: “I won every game and I enjoyed playing in the tournament. It was great to play in the tournament and I am really happy I have won a TRFC branded version of the game.

“I hope Tranmere run an event similar again and it was good to chat to other fans about not just FIFA, but Tranmere Rovers too.”

The Club has already received positive feedback from a number of participants about how well organised the tournament was and the chance to play the game at the home of Tranmere Rovers Football Club.

Players were not just playing for the chance to win a copy of the game, they were also entered in a raffle to win a Tranmere Rovers shirt. Food and drink were also served throughout the course of the day.

GAME, Birkenhead, supported the event, with two members of staff helping on the day alongside providing PS4 consoles.

Assistant store manager Ben Lee said: “The tournament was a huge success. There was a real positive turn out from Tranmere Rovers supporters which is nice to see.

“Like Tranmere Rovers, GAME are very much about the community and we wanted to help support the event. The tournament was well organised and played in a friendly atmosphere.”
