Gilmour delighted after Morecambe victory

6 October 2018

Tranmere Rovers midfielder Harvey Gilmour believes that the side can compete at the top after his last gasp winner secured a massive three points on the road for Rovers.

The teenage sensation played a pivotal role scoring a brace at the Globe Arena with goals in either half, to carry on his impressive start to the season.

Gilmour was delighted to come away with the spoils on the Lancashire coast in an eventful game, watched by the many loyal Tranmere supporters.

He told the media, “There was a lot of scrapping in the game, but I thought we stuck  to our principles and we were comfortable in the end to get the win.

I was so surprised by how many people were here, it is a great support and great travelling, it was really good.”

The impressive triumph for Rovers sees Mellon’s side pick up two wins from two in League Two, as the Wirral based outfit look to build momentum which the 19-year-old thinks is vital, especially with suspensions and injuries within the squad.

“Yes it is massive. When you are losing it is harder to get back up from that but when you are winning getting momentum you feel like everything is going for you so it is really good.

“It has been a great week for us to be fair and we will hopefully bring that into Tuesday in the cup but at the minute we are doing really well.

“Norwood has been firing goals for us all season so when Mullin had to step in he did really well in this game, I thought he held the ball up and was terrific to be fair. Me and Banksy (Banks) and Jonny (Smith) did well also.

On a personal level the new loan recruit from Sheffield United has stepped up to the mark since his arrival at Rovers, which has raised the expectations of fans. Hopes for Gilmour may also be growing for the whole team in the first campaign back in the Football League.

“I know I have set the bar high; maybe too high at the moment, but hopefully throughout the season I can get a few more goals and add to it.

“I love it, it is just great you know. It is my first time on a loan and first time in first team football so I just love it.

“We can definitely fight for top place and we are not scared of anyone in this league, so hopefully we can carry on what were doing.”
