Mellon: "We're growing into the division"

8 September 2018

Manager Micky Mellon spoke to the local media after today’s 1-1 against Colchester United at Prenton Park.

The boss was pleased with the team’s overall performance but disappointed in the way Rovers conceded midway through the second half to allow the visitors back into the game following James Norwood’s 43rd minute opener.

Speaking after the game, Mellon said: “The performance was good, we played some great football and created some good chances.

“We put in a good performance all round but we are disappointed we conceded in the way that we did.

“We created chances at the other end which we didn’t take but all in all, it was a good steady performance. We are growing into the division well and we are pleased with how we played today.

“We scored a very good goal through James Norwood. We had an idea what Colchester United’s game plan would be and we know they would try and frustrate us and slow things down.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game. We knew heading into the match it was going to be difficult and in this league, if we make mistakes, we will get punished, but if they make mistakes, we have to capitalise.

“The margin for error is small. There was some good football played and when we eventually got back to our passing game, we created some great opportunities.

“I am disappointed we haven’t won and I always will be if we don’t win but if you look over the whole performance, we did well.”
