"We don't fear anyone" - Jonny Smith ahead of Carlisle

14 September 2018

After joining on loan from Bristol City, Jonny Smith has been ever present in the Rovers side and has impressed out on the left of midfield. He believes that the squad is confident going to Carlisle after our solid start to the season.

“We’re going into the game confident because we thought last week we had a good performance and were unlucky not to get the win so we’re going there confident and we’re going there to get three points.

After only one defeat so far in the league this season, Smith admits that the squad would like to turn more draws into wins.

“We are a little bit frustrated but I see that as a good thing because we want to win every single home game and make Prenton Park a fortress. We want to let teams know that this is a tough place to come and we need to keep doing that.

“I think we have been disappointed in certain games that we haven’t got over the line but we need to keep positive, keep going and we’ll pick up the three points.

Rovers currently sit in 14th position but are only three points behind Saturday’s opponents Carlisle, who are placed in 4th. Smith insists that there is no reason why Tranmere can’t compete for a play-off place.

“We don’t fear anyone. We’re going to Carlisle to play our own game and hopefully that will be enough to get us the win.

“There’s no reason why we can’t be in the top seven. Tranmere are a massive club, even in this league. I remember going to watch Tranmere not long ago when we were top of League One and that’s where Tranmere need to be.”
