Ryan Williams admits it is a dream come true to sign for Tranmere Rovers.
The 27-year-old Birkenhead-born midfielder put pen to paper on a contract at Prenton Park on Wednesday following a successful period training with Micky Mellon’s side.
And while explaining how the deal came about, Williams, who was most recently on the books of Brazilian outfit Paysandu, revealed that he jumped at the chance to sign for his boyhood Club.
He told the Club’s official website: “About three weeks ago I was in the house, it’s not too far from here to be honest, being a local lad. I got a phone call, the manager said if I wanted to come in to keep ticking over and get myself fit. I hadn’t been doing too much since I got back from Brazil at the start of July.
“I came in and trained for a couple of weeks and then sat down with the manager last week, he asked me if I wanted to sign and I was obviously absolutely delighted, being a local lad, I used to sit on the terraces as a kid and it really means a lot to me and I’m very excited to get going.”
Williams is relishing the opportunity presented in front of him at Rovers and admitted that aside from his personal reasons to sign for the Club, the chance to play under Mellon and with a squad who share the shame professional standards excited him.
Williams continued: “I’ve come to Tranmere and it’s a great opportunity for me, I know a lot of lads who have worked with the manager, players like Steve McNulty, Scott Davies, these players have got pedigree and have gone onto win promotions.
“When I’ve been in and around the training ground, the tempo is high every day, they hold everyone accountable to certain standards and it is an environment I wanted to be a part of, so I was more than delighted to sign when the manager asked me to.”
Tranmere’s new midfielder also offered an insight into his own game, and what the Club’s supporters can expect from the local lad.
“I’m a forward-thinking midfielder, I like to get forward, I like to get around the box and get my shots off, I’ll give everything I’ve got for the team and I’m ecstatic to be here,” Williams concluded.
