Ellis previews Forest Green match

18 April 2019

Centre-back Mark Ellis says that Tranmere Rovers must remain focused on themselves only as the Sky Bet League Two promotion-race heads towards its exciting climax.

Currently fifth in the fourth-tier, Micky Mellon’s men host Forest Green Rovers at Prenton Park on Good Friday sitting just two-points behind Mansfield Town in third and the final automatic promotion position.

And Ellis, who has been a regular at the back for TRFC since coming back in to the side, is looking forward to the challenge that Mark Cooper’s Gloucestershire outfit will pose but believes that Rovers can only focus and control what they do.

Ellis, who used to play for Forest Green Rovers, said: “I’d say it’s a massive weekend for the teams around us as well, so we need to go and pick up all three-points tomorrow and then again on Monday.

“They (Forest Green) are a good team, they are a good passing team as well, probably similar to MK Dons so it will be a similar type of game, but we just need worry about what we are doing and how we can win the game.

“If we want to be in and get in to that top three, these are the teams that we need to play well against and beat so it is massive for us and it is a massive game.

“We know when we play against teams, every team is going to have a better spell in the game and mentally we need to be strong and sure at the back and as a group as well, you have to make sure you work hard and the result will come.

“It’s vital that we are calm and collected as a group to drag us through.

“We just have to keep worrying about what we are doing, we can’t look and rely on other results and if we keep picking up points and winning games, we’ve got a great chance of being in that top three.

“There was a belief in the players, belief in each other that we could do it and we’ve been on a tremendous run and I hope it continues.

“The fans have been tremendous right from day one, they have turned up in their numbers and have backed us.”
