Harris on win against MK Dons

14 April 2019

Midfielder Jay Harris isn’t getting carried away despite Tranmere Rovers moving to within two points of League Two’s top three after a 2-1 home victory over MK Dons at Prenton Park on Saturday.

Goals from midfield duo David Perkins and Connor Jennings either side of Kieran Agard’s leveller saw Micky Mellon’s Rovers continue their automatic promotion push.

Rovers have now won nine of their last 12 matches, and Harris, who came on as a replacement for goal scorer Perkins after the half-hour, offered his thoughts to the local media after the triumph against Paul Tisdale’s side.

Harris said: “The gaffer has been banging on about it for weeks now, we had five games to go, starting with MK Dons and it was a great team performance and we’ve come out victorious, so the three points are major for us.

“It just shows you that it is a squad game, 11 men on the pitch and fortunately we got the win and the three points.

“The gaffer and Jacko (Mike Jackson) keep us grounded all week, we know how important the outcome is, we concentrate all week working on our style of play and how we are going to play, and it’s come today with the performance.

“These are the games that you get up for, if you don’t want to get up for them games there’s no point playing the game, it’s a big scalp against MK Dons and it has put us right in the mix and it is more important than ever.

“You are going to concede goals but it is how you react, we’ve got the fans behind us, they were great today and it keeps you going, you want to run that little bit more, you want to get the result and it helps but it’s just the three points and that’s all we want.

“I’ve been here for four years now and the fans are amazing, and I expect nothing less, they are amazing, they turn out in their numbers when needed and they’ve been behind us.”
