Hume: The SWA can make the difference!

11 April 2019

‘When the SWA are with you, it is literally like having a 12th man’

Those are the words of former Tranmere Rovers striker Iain Hume as he gets ready to cheer the team on for their final five league matches of the season.

The Canadian international, who made more than 100 appearances for the Club, still lives in the local area and has always shown his support for the team he made his professional debut for, nearly 19 years ago to this day against Swindon Town in old First Division, now known as the Championship.

Hume will be cheering the team on this weekend against MK Dons, and he has urged the SWA to be the 12th man for Micky Mellon and the team and get down to Prenton Park this weekend.

Hume said: “They (SWA) are massively important. When they are with you, with how close the pitch is, it is like having a 12th man. Many times, over the years playing towards The Kop, they literally suck the ball into the net.

“The fans have always played a massive role in the success that TRFC have had. They are a brilliant crowd to play in front as a home player but equally, as an opposition player, a horrible crowd to play in front

“I have so many fond memories of Prenton Park, my first professional goal, FA Cup runs and Play-Off matches. Even when I came back as an opposition player, I always had a great relationship with the Club and the fans.”

Tranmere enter this weekend’s game against MK Dons in fifth spot in the table, firmly in the race for the Play-Offs and automatic promotion.

With five games left of the regular season, three of those at Prenton Park, Hume believes the momentum and positivity currently surrounding Tranmere Rovers could play a huge factor in the final run in.

“Momentum is massively important. Having that winning mentality going into the final games could be that little bit you need to get over the line.

“I haven’t been able to come to a game since Wembley because I have been out of the country but having been part of the Club’s worst days, it is what everybody involved has needed.

“The work the Chairman, Micky and all of the lads have done in the last three years is remarkable and it is great to see the Club moving back up where I believe they should be.

“How good would it now be to see Prenton Park packed for the final three home matches against MK Dons, Forest Green and Bury? Those three results could decide the season. I hope as many of the SWA go through the turnstiles and help pull the team over the line.”
