ITV showcase SWA2 billboard at Prenton Park

20 April 2019

Last week Granada Reports visited Prenton Park and the Campus as part of a special report on Tranmere Rovers’ SWA2 initiative, with the Club engaging with the next generation of Club’s supporters.

A key part of the Club’s SWA2 initiative is the main billboard outside Prenton Park which is dedicated to the children of the Super White Army, and each month we ask the fans to send in their best pictures to make up the fantastic display.

To say a big thank you to everyone who sends in images we invited the billboard stars, along with ITV Sport Correspondent David Chisnall, to meet the players and manager at the Campus during training.

Manager of the Month for March, Micky Mellon, took a break from his master plans to spend some time with those who will grow up watching the Club succeed.

He said: “It’s always great seeing the young fans because we are a really family-orientated Club. We want to remain close to the Community, so it’s important that when we get the opportunity, we can say thank you to the fans personally and invite them to get involved with what we’re up to.”

From three weeks old to eight years old, a wide range of children make up the stars of the latest SWA2 billboard. This includes three-year-old Phoebe Perkins, who went viral after pictures of her celebrating Tranmere’s win with Manny Monthe were a hit on social media.

Phoebe is a huge fan of TRFC number one Scott Davies, who said: “She’s always shouting my name when she comes to the games, I can hear her above everyone else when we walk out! People like Phoebe are the future of this football club so it’s great to see them at the training ground and it’s motivation for us to keep doing well for the fans.”

The children were clearly a good luck charm for the players as after the open training session - Rovers achieved a triumphant victory at home against MK Dons and moved one step closer to promotion.

Summed up by Norwood mega-fan Mason Sweeney: “It was the best day of my life.”

If you would like to get involved with our SWA2 initiative and appear on our next billboard, please email your best pictures to TonyC@tranmererovers.co.uk.
