Micky looks ahead to Good Friday clash vs Forest Green

18 April 2019

Manager Micky Mellon wants his players to represent Tranmere Rovers properly as they prepare to welcome Forest Green Rovers to Prenton Park in Sky Bet League Two on Good Friday.

Fifth-placed Rovers are just two-points behind Mansfield Town in the fourth-tier’s final automatic promotion position.

And Mellon, who won March’s Manager of the Month award for Sky Bet League Two recently, expects his side to keep up their current standards ahead of hosting Mark Cooper’s Green Devils to the Wirral.

Mellon said: “I kept saying from day one that there’s never been an easy game regardless of who we are playing against so tomorrow will be no different but two teams battling it out for the main prizes so it will be very difficult.

“We need to make sure we go out there and get ourselves in the right place to go and represent this Football Club properly.

“Right at the start of the season we wanted to continue to try and bring football that was looking like it was going to be successful to the Football Club, so we have worked very hard to try and do that, but we are where we are at the minute.

“We haven’t achieved anything other than that, now it is about continuing the hard work and trying to get over the line.

“I think it has been a whole together thing, I think there’s been a real big movement from everybody and everybody that has contributed to us getting favourable results but it must continue and as a Football Club we must keep getting results and keep performing well, keep developing players and keep the standards of the place high, that is something that will continue but everybody has been a big part of it.

“They are a great group of lads who work very, very hard, I know every manager says that, but they genuinely do. We have a group of players who go out there and know they are not selfish, and they have to be ready for when opportunities come along and keep moving forward.

“The team spirit is fantastic between all of us, the relationship that the whole football club has from the fans to the players is very good so I would say at the minute it is the whole environment that has put everybody’s mentality in the right place and we work for the most important thing and that is getting results for Tranmere and we all know our place in that and the importance.”
