Micky previews MK Dons match

11 April 2019

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon is excited for Saturday’s top-of-the-table Sky Bet League Two fixture as his side host fellow promotion-contenders MK Dons at Prenton Park, 3pm kick-off.

Rovers are fifth in the fourth-tier, four points off Paul Tisdale’s Dons, who make the journey up to the Wirral occupying third position, the final automatic promotion place.

And having lost just two of their last 10 league games in front of their own supporters, Mellon believes that Saturday is an occasion that should be enjoyed by everyone associated with TRFC.

Mellon said: “Like I’ve said before, they are all big games now. We are enjoying being in this situation, we have worked hard to get in to this situation because we believe that this is where teams who are good teams operate.

“We are enjoying it, we are taking every game as it comes, every day as it comes and we’ll get them prepared properly and we are really, really looking forward to it, everything is positive.

“We’re both at the right end of the table and in the shake up for the prizes that we would have all loved to have gone for at the start of the season so it’s a big, big game.

“MK Dons are going slightly better than us at the minute as they are higher in the table so we know it will be a tough game but one we are excited about and we will look forward to.

“We have just got keep our attention on us and keep care of what we do every day in training, not look too far ahead and make sure we prepare properly for what should be an exciting afternoon on Saturday.

“The Wirral is a place that loves its sport and its football team so that’s why we try and work very hard to represent them all the time, we know if you give them something worth supporting then they will turn up in massive numbers so that’s fantastic that that’s happening but we still have to concentrate on what we do and deliver, make sure we go and perform.”
