Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers return to Prenton Park on Saturday for a Sky Bet League Two promotion six-pointer as they host MK Dons, 3pm kick-off.

Micky Mellon’s side remain in contention for a top three finish with five games of the season to play.

Following the goalless draw away at Newport County, TRFC are fifth in the fourth-tier, four points away from Saturday’s opponents, who occupy third position and the final automatic promotion place.

Paul Tisdale’s Dons visit the Wirral looking to get back to winning ways after a 2-0 home defeat to leaders Lincoln City last weekend.

Team news

Luke McCullough and Ishmael Miller remain on the sidelines for TRFC. Otherwise, Mellon has no new injury concerns heading into this weekend's match.

The Dons’ season so far

As the campaign enters its final month, Tisdale’s men are well on course to secure an immediate return to Sky Bet League One after relegation last May.

Tisdale was appointed as the permanent successor to Dan Micciche at the Buckinghamshire club in June 2018.

And the former Exeter boss has guided the Dons to third in the table having collected 72 points from their 41 fixtures played so far – winning 21, drawing nine and losing 11.

Should they win today, MK Dons could climb above Mansfield Town and up to second if results go their way.

One to Watch

Forward Kieran Agard currently leads the way at the top of MK Dons’ goalscoring charts.

Agard started out with Everton, making three first-team appearances for the Toffees.

He left Goodison Park permanently in 2011, spending a year playing at Yeovil Town.

The Londoner then moved on to Rotherham United in 2012, where he turned out 78 times as the Millers won back-to-back promotions from League Two to the Championship.

Agard was on the books at Bristol City for two seasons before making the transfer to Buckinghamshire in 2016.

This term, the 29-year-old has scored 20 goals for the Dons in all competitions as they aim for a return to the third-tier at the first attempt.
