Midfielder Jonny Smith insists that Tranmere Rovers are taking their promotion push from Sky Bet League Two one game at a time ahead of welcoming MK Dons to Prenton Park on Saturday.
Rovers, who are fifth, play host to Paul Tisdale’s Dons in a promotion six-pointer, with the visitors third in the division, four points above TRFC.
Smith, on loan from Championship club Bristol City, has made 38 appearances for Micky Mellon’s men so far this term as they look to earn a back-to-back promotion following on from their success last May.
With five games of the campaign to play, 21-year-old Smith admits that Tranmere's focus should be looking at the remaining matches and taking them one at a time.
Smith also expects a tough test when the Dons head to the Wirral for Saturday’s clash.
He said: “It’s taking each game as it comes and this is the next massive game and the same as Newport, that was a massive game and it was good to come out with a point there, obviously we have to go again on Saturday and get three points.
“Every game is a massive game, we went to Newport on Saturday, tried our best, that was our biggest game of the season, now Saturday, that is our biggest game of the season.
“We started the season well, went through a little blip for a few months but since all the news lads have come in, we’ve really got together, and we’ve really turned a corner and come a long way.
“I’d probably say footballing wise, they (MK Dons) were the best footballing team we’ve played this season when we went there, they played out from the back, they were a very good team so we are expecting a very tough test as they are a great footballing team.
“We are all here to help Tranmere at the end of the day and if I’m selected, I’ll try and help the team as much as I can, and I’ll be waiting to take my chance to come on.”
