A member of the Tranmere press pack will take on the ultimate challenge this month in memory of his late mother and he needs your help.
Freelance sports journalist Richard Garnett, who reports on Rovers for the Press Association and Wirral Globe, will compete in the 2019 London Marathon this Sunday 28th April, raising money for the charity Children with Cancer UK.
Richard lost his mum, Barbara Garnett, to Pancreatic Cancer in February, aged just 70. But having successfully gained a place in the gruelling 26.2-mile sporting spectacle shortly before her passing, he is determined to honour her memory in the capital.
He said: “Mum’s death has left the whole family heartbroken, but I promised her I would run the London Marathon and bring that medal back home for her.
“Originally, I just wanted to make her proud of me, but her cruel decease was merciless and took her only four months after diagnosis. Now I’m very much running it in her honour.
“Training has been difficult and interrupted with all that’s happened but before she died she told me to never give up and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’ll crawl over the line if I have to.”
Children with Cancer UK is a charity dedicated to raising money for research and providing care for children with cancer and their families.
