Tranmere Rovers midfielder Ollie Banks is in confident mood ahead of the new Sky Bet League One season.
Micky Mellon’s men host Rochdale at Prenton Park at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, with Rovers back in English football’s third-tier for the first time since 2014.
Rotherham-native Banks, 26, who made 39 appearances last term as TRFC secured a back-to-back promotion at Wembley Stadium, can’t wait for the to be back up and running.
Brian Barry-Murphy’s men from Greater Manchester await Rovers this weekend and Banks feels that Tranmere can have a positive term in 2019/20.
Banks said: “All the lads are just pleased to see the back of pre-season and we’re excited, there’s nothing better than the season kicking off on Saturday so we all can’t wait.
“Two promotions in two years is unbelievable, the lads have done unbelievable to get that and hopefully we can kick on and have another good season.
“We do the same things day in day out. The lads are all together and we’ll be fighting for the three points all season and we’re looking forward to it.
“As a player it’s exciting to play in big stadiums and in front of big crowds, testing yourself against some good players and it’s an exciting season.”
Rovers enjoyed a positive home form in Sky Bet League Two during the last campaign and Banks hopes the SWA can play a part in making Prenton Park a fortress.
He added: “You see with most teams, your season is built on your home form, if we can stay solid at home and see what we can do away from home, it will be very important.
“We have a big stadium, the fans are brilliant and we play good football so teams won’t like coming here.”
Let’s Pack the Park and get behind Micky and the lads as we start our Sky Bet League One journey!
