Flashback: Rotherham 2006

30 August 2019

For each fixture this season, take a trip down memory lane to recall a memorable Tranmere Rovers match against each of our Sky Bet League One opponents.

Rovers travel to the New York Stadium on Saturday where they play Paul Warne’s Rotherham United in the third-tier as Micky Mellon’s men go in search of their first away win of the campaign.

Rewinding to January 2nd 2006, Tranmere enjoyed a 3-2 victory against their South Yorkshire visitors at Prenton Park with 10-men.

In a League One meeting between the two sides, Rovers fell behind through Shaun Barker’s header after 14 minutes.

Barker was sent off for a second bookable offence on the half-hour and Tranmere capitalised on the stroke of half-time when Chris Greenacre levelled with a fierce effort.

Calvin Zola scored Rovers’ second with 54 minutes on the clock before Danny Harrison made it three just past the hour from close-range after Greenacre’s shot had struck the crossbar.

Will Hoskins’ 77th minute goal created a nervy finish as Tranmere saw Steve Davies sent off in added time.

Tranmere went onto finish 18th in League One under the management of Brian Little.

TRFC: Seremet, Francis, Jackson, Sharps, Roberts, Aiston (Goodison 82), McAteer, Harrison, Tremarco (Davies 52), Zola (Jennings 73), Greenacre.
