Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers return to Sky Bet League One action at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon when they welcome North West rivals Bolton Wanderers to the Wirral, 3pm kick-off.

Micky Mellon’s men will be aiming to earn their first win of the new season against the Trotters having suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Hull City in the Carabao Cup first-round on Tuesday night.

Phil Parkinson’s Greater Manchester side head into the fixture also searching for their opening victory.

Wanderers, who are currently in administration and on -11 points, were beaten 5-2 away at Rochdale in their Carabao Cup outing.

Team News:

Boss Mellon will be without Jake Caprice, (ankle) Mark Ellis, (knee) Evan Gumbs (ACL) and Ishmael Miller (hamstring) for the visit of Bolton.

Midfielder Jacob Maddox is in line to make his TRFC debut on Saturday after recently signing on a loan deal from Chelsea.

One to Watch

Romanian midfielder Dennis Politic came through the age groups at Bolton as he made his debut in their opening day defeat at Wycombe Wanderers.

Born in Brasov, Politic was in the youth ranks of SR Brasov before moving to England in August 2012, linking up with Manchester United’s academy and later switching to his current club.

Signing his first professional contract in 2018, Politic was loaned to Salford City last term, playing nine games in the National League.

The 19-year-old has featured twice for Bolton in Sky Bet League One this term.
