Wilson: We have to move on quickly

14 August 2019

Tranmere Rovers right-back Kane Wilson believes that he and his team-mates must move on quickly from their 3-0 home defeat to Hull City in the Carabao Cup first-round on Tuesday night.

Micky Mellon’s side were knocked out by Grant McCann’s Tigers in front of the SWA at Prenton Park courtesy of three first-half goals.

The visitors from East Yorkshire struck twice in the opening six minutes through Jon Toral and David Milinkovic before Ryan Tafazolli’s header from a corner increased Hull’s lead.

But after the break, TRFC responded well against their Sky Bet Championship opponents, and 19-year-old Wilson knows that Rovers must now focus on Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture at home to Bolton Wanderers and move on from Tuesday’s loss.

Wilson said: “I know they made 11 changes but fundamentally they are a Championship team and we should have been more aware of that, they scored early after 20 seconds and straight away we’re on the back foot.

“It could have been better obviously in the first-half but in the second-half after the gaffer spoke to us and we came back out and tried to put on a display where maybe the fans are a more proud.

“It’s a disappointing result and we have to improve and move on.

“There’s no point dwelling on a result, we have a game on Saturday that we have to focus on, and we need to show that we are a good team and we are a good side and hopefully we can put it right there.”
