Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers hit the road for a Boxing Day trip to Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One.

Micky Mellon’s men will be looking for a second win on the spin, and a league double over the Brewers, following Saturday’s 1-0 home victory against AFC Wimbledon at Prenton Park.

Burton also head into the Festive fixture buoyed by three points of their own, as Nigel Clough’s side defeated Rochdale 3-1 in front of their own supporters at the Pirelli Stadium.

Team news

Corey Blackett-Taylor remains suspended for the second game after his red card at Lincoln City.

Captain Scott Davies, Mark Ellis, Evan Gumbs, Ishmael Miller, Harvey Gilmour and Ollie Banks all remain out.

Kane Wilson and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson are both doubts for the visit to Staffordshire.

One to watch

Forward Liam Boyce signed for Burton Albion from Scottish outfit Ross County in June 2017 for a club record-fee.

The Belfast-born player began his career at Cliftonville in 2008 before he switched to German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in 2010.

He returned to Cliftonville in January 2012 to score 51 goals in 85 appearances prior to a switch to Scotland and Ross County in June 2014.

Boyce was prolific for the Staggies and was the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer in 2016/17 with 23 goals.

The 28-year-old Northern Ireland international linked up with Burton two-years ago and has scored ten times this season.
