Micky looks ahead to busy Christmas period

20 December 2019

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon is looking forward to the Christmas schedule kicking-off, when his side host AFC Wimbledon at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers play their first of four Sky Bet League One fixtures in the space of 11 days against the Dons, before a trip to Burton Albion and welcoming Blackpool and Coventry City to the Wirral.

And ahead of the meeting with Glyn Hodges men, Micky previewed the game in his pre-match press conference to the local media.

Mellon said: “You get used to over the course of your career, we have a different type of Christmas to a lot of people, but we enjoy it and we love it.

“This period has a unique atmosphere to it. People come home and watch Tranmere from all over the country and all over the world. It is a good opportunity to pick up points and it’s an opportunity for us as a team to turn the performances into points.

“We need to be able to try and do that. Performances recently have been very good, there’s still improvements to be made, but the boys are working hard.

“Wimbledon is the most important because the next one always is. We can’t look too far ahead. It is an important game and we’ll be working hard to get an important three points.

“We know the important thing is to go and try to perform and do the things that we do well to give ourselves a better chance.”
