Micky on preparing for Boxing Day clash

24 December 2019

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon says his players will be well prepared for the Boxing Day visit to Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One.

Rovers will be aiming to do a league double over the Brewers after last September’s dramatic 2-1 victory at Prenton Park.

Nigel Clough’s men await Rovers in the Pirelli Stadium clash, as Tranmere search for their second straight three points following Saturday’s 1-0 home triumph over AFC Wimbledon.

Micky spoke to the local media ahead of the outing at Burton, as the 2019/20 season heads towards its halfway point.

Mellon said: “They’ll be in Christmas Day. They’ll do what they need to do to get prepared for Boxing Day.

“We are professionals, we don’t bring everyone in to annoy anybody. At this time of year, we are people’s entertainment and I know that we have important business to take care of.

“We have to make sure that we are ready for it, and we’ll go to Burton well prepared, and we’ll go down there and know that the lads are best prepared as possible to go down there and get a result for Tranmere.

"As long as the principles are right and we stick to them, so we will take it game-by-game and look forward to the Burton challenge.

“We’ll go on Boxing Day and get there for about half 12 and have a bite to eat then do what we have got to do and make our journey to Burton.”

The boss also wants his side to perform for a strong travelling support from the SWA, who are set to fill the away end down in Staffordshire.

He added: “I won’t be surprised that there will be a big following. The always do back us and support us, and we have to go out there and perform.”
