Rovers Rewind: Blackpool 2006

27 December 2019

For each fixture this season, we will take a trip down memory lane to recall a memorable Tranmere Rovers match against each of our Sky Bet League One opponents.

Blackpool are Sunday afternoon’s visitors to Prenton Park as Tranmere host the Tangerines in front of the SWA in their final game of 2019.

And we’ll take you back over 13-years back in November 2006, to the last time that the Seasiders visited the Wirral, in a Friday night clash under the floodlights.

Goals from Chris Greenacre and Steve Davies sealed the three points for Ronnie Moore’s men in League One.

Rovers led inside two minutes courtesy of Greenacre, who pounced on a loose ball following Davies’ cross to slide his effort beyond Rhys Evans.

Tranmere doubled their advantage when Davies struck from close-range after Evans misjudged a cross.

Wes Hoolahan and Ian Evatt both later went close for Blackpool, but Rovers comfortably saw out the game for maximum points.

Rovers ended that season with a ninth placed finish in the division on 67 points from their 46 games.

Tranmere: Ward, Thompson, McCready, Goodison, Sherriff, Shuker, McLaren, Mullin, Davies (Zola 83), Taylor, Greenacre.

Subs Not Used: Achterberg, Stockdale, Jones, Curran
