Sid pleased with collective performance

23 December 2019

Tranmere Rovers centre-back Sid Nelson was pleased with the collective performance in Saturday’s 1-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at Prenton Park.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy was on target as Micky Mellon’s men ran out deserved winners in their penultimate home fixture of 2019.

Rovers were made to work for the three points, with Nelson putting in a fine display at the back to help preserve the clean sheet and the victory in front of the SWA.

Focus now turns to a Boxing Day visit to Burton Albion prior to hosting Blackpool next Sunday and Coventry City on New Year’s Day.

And Nelson, 23, says it was important that Tranmere got the victory, which kicked-off the Festive schedule in Sky Bet League One in positive fashion.

Speaking to the local media, Nelson said: “I feel like in recent weeks we have been performing well enough to get ourselves clean sheets, but little things haven’t gone our way, but it’s good we performed like that in front of our own fans and got the clean sheet and all three points.

“You have to take each game as they come, and the next game is the most important game. We will focus on Thursday now, but it was an important three points and it was a great performance all round.

“It was great to defend something but that was just collectively as a group. We all know we have to be pulling a bit better as stuff hasn’t been going our way at certain times, but I’m glad we got the 1-0.

“It was a proper collective performance from the lads today.”
