Match Preview: Stevenage

Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers will play their second home game of the week when Stevenage visit Prenton Park, 3pm kick-off on Saturday 9th January.

Tranmere will be looking for an immediate response after Tuesday’s narrow home defeat against Northampton Town.

Rovers currently lie in tenth spot in the division after 30 matches and a win could move TRFC within five points off the Play-Offs.

Visitors Stevenage sit one place above Tranmere heading into the game and come into the match after a 1-0 home victory against Yeovil Town last weekend.

Tranmere and Stevenage met on the opening day of the season, as Rovers fought from two goals down to secure a point, with marksman James Norwood scoring a brace.

Team news

Ollie Banks is available for selection after missing Tuesday’s game through suspension. Steve McNulty is still carrying an injury and has not trained this week. Ishmael Miller is still a long-term absentee after his operation.

One to watch

Alex Revell was the match winner for Stevenage in their last match, scoring in the 79th minute at home to Yeovil in a 1-0 win.

The experienced striker has represented Cardiff City, Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United, scoring in the League One Play-Off for the latter against his former team, Leyton Orient.

The 35-year old signed for Stevenage a year ago from Northampton Town, and he will be looking to add to his goal scoring tally this weekend against Tranmere.

Man in the middle

Referee Eddie Ilderton will take charge of this weekend’s game against Stevenage. The North East official has taken charge of just four games this season, his last coming on the 26th January, as Blackpool won 2-0 at Coventry City.

He will be joined by assistant referees Matthew Bristow and Craig Taylor, along with fourth official Barry Lamb
