Here are 10 facts about our new January recruit, as Perkins links up with Micky Mellon’s side and will be available for next weekend’s game at Cheltenham Town.
1. Perkins started his career at Morecambe, making more than 170 professional appearances for the Shrimps following his debut against Lincoln City as an 18-year-old in 2000.
2. In 2007, after seven years at the Shrimps, he signed for Rochdale, making 60 appearances at Spotland before joining Colchester a year later.
3. Perkins has spent time at both Chesterfield and Stockport County on loan.
4. During his time at Colchester, in one season he won the Player of the Year, Player’s Player of the Year, Colchester United Supporters’ Association Home Player of the Year and Colchester United Supporters’ Association Away Player of the Year
5. Perkins’ form caught the attention of Championship side Barnsley in June 2011 and he went on to spend three seasons at Oakwell, winning the Supporters’ Player of the Year Award in 2013.
6. Perkins' next move was to former Premier League side Blackpool, playing 65 times in the Championship before a move to Wigan in 2015.
7. The midfielder was a success at the 2013 FA Cup winners, winning two League One titles during his time at the DW Stadium.
8. Perkins also played for Wigan in their memorable FA Cup victory at home to current Premier League champions Manchester City last year.
9. By signing for Tranmere Rovers, Perkins will play in the fourth-tier for the first time since his loan move to Chesterfield in 2010.
10. In his career, Perkins has played against Tranmere Rovers five times and even scored in the 4-3 win for his side Colchester at Prenton Park in 2008.
