Getting to know Sid Nelson

Tranmere Rovers completed their second signing of the week on Tuesday as defender Sid Nelson joined on loan from Championship outfit Millwall until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Here are ten facts about our new signing from The Den…

1. Nelson, a centre back, has been with Millwall since the aged eight, and came through the club’s academy system and captained the youth team

2. After a decade in the youth system at Millwall, he signed a professional contract with the Lions in August 2014

3. Nelson would go on to make his debut for the South-East London side under manager Ian Holloway against AFC Bournemouth on 28 December 2014.

4. Nelson made 15 made appearances for Millwall in his breakthrough season in the Championship side.

5. The defender has made nearly 50 first team appearances for Millwall

6. Nelson’s first loan spell away from Millwall came in January 2017, as he joined League Two side Newport County and made 14 appearances for the Welsh side.

7. His next loan spell was at Yeovil Town from August 2017 until January 2018 and once again, he made 14 appearances for his loan side

8. In January 2018, Sid joined Chesterfield and scored his first professional goal in a victory against Notts County in March 2018

9. Nelson’s impressive form during his loan spells away from Millwall earnt him a new contract with the Lions last summer

10. The defender returned to League Two on loan earlier this season and joined Swindon Town, playing 24 times for the Robins before his arrival at Tranmere Rovers​
