Premier League Primary Stars – Norwood and Ellis quizzed by Fender pupils

18 January 2019

Tranmere Rovers In The Community pay weekly visits to local schools as part of our Premier League Primary Stars sessions.

From Q&A sessions, taking part in a PE lessons or delivering a talk; these visits are designed to inspire the pupils into playing regular sport, promote equality and diversity and to motivate them to reach their goals.

This week James Norwood and Mark Ellis visited Fender Primary School in Woodchurch, where the pupils had prepared some questions to ask the boys about their careers.

Some of the children at Fender Primary benefit from our #SWA2 initiative, where we distribute tickets to our home games for over 35 charities and community groups on the Wirral and were excited to meet their favourite players. Walking into a room of applause, Norwood and Ellis were quizzed on their daily gym routine, how old were they when they started playing football and if they had scored more goals than Mo Salah, which James answered very quickly with “yes, I’ve scored 19 he’s scored 12.”

To finish the afternoon, to the pupils delight, the boys went round to the classrooms to sign memorabilia and have their photos taken with the children.

Teacher and lifelong Tranmere Rovers fan, Danny Connelly had this to say about the players visit:

“ The children at Fender had a great opportunity to meet the Tranmere Rovers players. The players were an inspiration to the children and it was a once in a life time event for them. The children, staff and parents are really happy with the visit! Memories have been made for them.

#SWA2 have given some of the Woodchurch families an opportunity to go to Tranmere Rovers matches. Some of the children that have benefited from the #SWA2 tickets were given a dream opportunity today to meet their idols. Tranmere Rovers are a credit to the community and are much more than a football club. We completely appreciate everything they do for us.“

We would like to thank Fender Primary School for a successful afternoon and look forward in visiting them again in the future.
