Gilmour predicting positive season in League One

5 July 2019

Midfielder Harvey Gilmour believes Tranmere Rovers can enjoy a positive season in Sky Bet League One when the campaign commences in August.

Currently up in Scotland with his team-mates on a week-long training camp at St Andrews, 20-year-old Gilmour is optimistic about the 2019/20 term and hopes to build upon the 32 appearances that he earned in 2018/19 for Micky Mellon’s side.

Initially joining on loan from Sheffield United last July, Gilmour’s stay on the Wirral was made permanent in January when he signed a deal until the end of next season.

And Gilmour reflected on the Scotland training camp and his aims for the upcoming year in Sky Bet League One, which begins when TRFC host Rochdale at Prenton Park on Saturday 3rd August.

Gilmour said: “It’s been really tough, coming up to Scotland, we’ve been put through our paces, especially running wise.

“We can go out next season and play with freedom, I want to get in the team and help the team get back where they belong because it is a big Club, being in League One as well but I think we’ll do well.

“It’s been great for the Club, they really deserved promotion, we were up there all season and it was a great day out at Wembley, it was perfect, and we feel we can have a good season in League One.

“I’ve grown up a lot with myself, not just in football but I’ve taken on more responsibility, it’s a massive step and people don’t quite realise that, and I feel I’ve done well.

“I was coming on in the final 20 minutes of games and then the gaffer put faith in me to start me in two or three games and I started really well so I’m glad they recognised that.

“I’ve loved every minute of it, coming in, the gaffer gave me trust and I won a Player of the Month and topped off with promotion which was even better.”
