Setting the scene…

Tranmere Rovers are back in pre-season friendly action on Tuesday night when they head to Brunton Park where Carlisle United await, 7:30pm kick-off.

Micky Mellon’s men travel to Cumbria having suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Sky Bet Championship outfit Stoke City at Prenton Park on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Tommy Smith and Danny Batth earned Nathan Jones’ Potters victory on the Wirral, with attention now turning to the trip to Cumbria as preparations continue for the upcoming Sky Bet League One campaign.

TRFC did the double over Carlisle in Sky Bet League Two last term, securing a 2-0 away triumph in September before a 3-0 Prenton Park victory in March.

One to Watch

Forward Hallam Hope has been a key member of Carlisle United’s squad since arriving at Brunton Park in June 2017.

The Mancunian turned professional with Everton in 2013 having come through the Toffees youth system but spent much of his time away from Goodison Park on loan.

Temporary stints at Northampton Town, Sheffield Wednesday and two stays at Bury followed prior to him signing permanently for the Shakers in January 2015.

In two years at Gigg Lane, Hope turned out 54 times in Greater Manchester before he made the switch to Carlisle in 2017.

Hope, 25, who is also a Barbados international having played for England at youth level, has made 81 league appearances for the Cumbrians, scoring 23 goals.
