Rovers beat Premier League opposition behind closed doors

Rovers ran out 3-2 victors in a behind closed doors friendly against Burnley at their training ground, Gawthorpe, on Tuesday afternoon.

After coming from two goals down, Tranmere defeated a very strong Burnely side as they stepped up their preparations for the start of the League One season in August.

Burnley fielded a different side in each half with their first half side including the likes of Joe Hart, James Tarkowski, Aaron Lennon and Jeff Hendrick.

The Premier League side got off to a flying start after Vyrda got on the score sheet after just two minutes. The striker grabbed his second not long after as the hosts went 2-0 in front.

Paul Mullin halved the defecit for Rovers, finishing well from a cross from the right and leaving the score 2-1 going into the break.

The Clarets started the second half with household names such as Tom Heaton, Ben Mee, Jay Rodriguez and Chris Wood in the line up.

On the 52nd minute, Tranmere drew level. Ishmael Miller with the unstoppable finish from inside the box after the ball broke kindly for him.

In the latter stages of the game, Wembley hero Connor Jennings grabbed a winner after a perfectly weighted through ball into his path.

This goal confirmed an impressive win for Rovers in a third run out of pre-season so far with the fourth game coming on Saturday against Stoke City at Prenton Park. CLICK HERE to get your tickets for that game.
