St. Gregory's enjoy activities at TRFC

11 July 2019

Pupils from St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School recently visited Tranmere Rovers Football Club’s Recreation Centre at Prenton Park for a fun-filled day of activities.

Tranmere Rovers in the Community, in partnership with the Premier League’s Primary Stars Day of Activities initiative, provided coaching and educational programmes in the Recreation Centre.

Open to children aged 5-11 in Primary schools, the Premier League Primary Stars programme aim to:

To increase children’s participation and enjoyment in sport and physical activities

To promote the added benefits of sport and physical activity in English, Maths & PSHE
To increase participation in after school football and sports activities.
To enhance teachers’ knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver high quality PE.
To increase football and sports skills in children.
To support talented children into progression pathways in sport.

Once the group had arrived, the children were split up and enjoyed football coaching sessions courtesy of TRIC’s coaches.

As well as coaching sessions, educational talks aimed at developing a healthy, balanced diet and lifestyle were given to the pupils, while they also found out what goes on behind the scenes on a matchday at TRFC.

Following on from their activities, the pupils were treated to a tour of Prenton Park where they had a photo opportunity with the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final trophy.

Simon Lea, teacher at St Gregory’s Primary School, said: “Tranmere provided a well organised, fun, professional learning experience for the children which combined practical and theoretical learning.

“The children were engaged from start to finish and enjoyed all of the learning opportunities provided during the trip.”

TRIC works to engage with local Wirral-based charities and schools working across the four core themes of Engagement, Health, Education and Sports Participation.
