An update from Micky

Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon says recruiting the right type of player this summer will be key as the Club prepare for life back in Sky Bet League One next season.

Rovers returned to the third-tier last month after Connor Jennings’ 119th winner saw Mellon’s men beat Newport County 1-0 in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final under the Wembley Stadium arch to seal a back-to-back promotion.

With the upcoming season here before you know it, we sat down with Micky to get his initial thoughts on his summer transfer plans and the new campaign.

And the Scot believes that Rovers will recruit correctly as Sky Bet League One football will be back at Prenton Park come August.

Mellon said: “We have to make sure the players we bring in, we get the value for money for to keep help try and move the team forward.”

The likes of former Premier League sides Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth will visit the Wirral next term and Mellon is confident that after two promotions in a row, TRFC can be competitive against the big teams of the division.

Mellon added: “We will be coming up against massive Football Clubs, we’ve got to make sure that we are competitive when we play against them.

“We are working very hard to try and get the best players possible that will help us keep moving forward.”
