Corey: Tranmere is a place where you want to be

26 June 2019

Corey Blackett-Taylor can’t wait to pull on a Tranmere Rovers shirt after he signed on a permanent basis on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old midfielder links up with Micky Mellon’s men on a two-year deal ahead of the new Sky Bet League One season, which gets underway on Saturday 3rd August, when Rovers host Rochdale at Prenton Park.

And having played 10 games on loan at Walsall in Sky Bet League One last term, the Birmingham-native is relishing the opportunity to get going at TRFC.

Blackett-Taylor said: “I’m happy it’s done, I heard about the interest about a week ago and I’m just glad that I’m here now and I just want to get started.

“Me and the gaffer have a good relationship, we spoke before and we spoke again recently, he has a clear understanding of what he wants me to do and what my goal is, and I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m expecting with the team getting promoted at the end of last season, there is going to be a good vibe around the whole place and just to push on to see how good we are in League One.

“What attracted me was the fact that the team had back-to-back promotions and the relationship that I have with the manager, we get on well, there is a clear understanding and also the winning ambition of the team attracted me as well.

“There’s a buzz around the place and the team is used to winning so that is good as well.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to showcase what I can do and just try and do the best for the team and I just want to get started.”

Blackett-Taylor, an academy graduate of Aston Villa, who went on to represent the club’s first-team, knows how important the SWA are and is looking forward to playing at Prenton Park.

He added: “It’s a good stadium and I know that Tranmere can get a decent crowd as well so I’m looking forward to playing in front of a big crowd and just having a good atmosphere around the team.”
