Defender delighted with move to Prenton Park

26 June 2019

Full-back Calum Woods is looking forward to getting started at Tranmere Rovers after the Club today announced him as the second summer signing.

Woods, 32, is summer recruit number two for manager Micky Mellon following on from centre-back George Ray’s arrival at Prenton Park on Monday as preparations continue for the Sky Bet League One season.

Most recently on the books of Bradford City, Woods returns to his native Merseyside after signing for Rovers.

A player with a vast amount of experience in the third-tier having won promotion from Sky Bet League One via the Play-Offs at Wembley Stadium with Huddersfield Town in 2012 and Preston North End in 2015, Liverpudlian Woods was delighted to get the deal done.

He said: “I’m delighted to get it over the line, as soon as I heard Tranmere were interested it was the place where I wanted to be.

“I found out a few weeks ago that Tranmere were interested and over the last couple of weeks things have progressed and we have got it signed today and everything sorted so I’m delighted.

“I’ve played in this league a couple of times and had a couple of promotions from this league and I’m coming into a team that has had back-to-back promotions with really good players so I’m looking forward to it.”

Third-tier football will be played at Prenton Park for the first time in 2014 when the new campaign gets underway.

TRFC welcome Rochdale to the Wirral on Saturday 3rd August, and Woods is relishing the opportunity to link up with a Club on the up after back-to-back promotions under the Wembley Stadium arch.

He added: “Seeing the lads win back-to-back promotions, anything is possible with the group of lads that are already here, the Club is going in the right direction.

“Hopefully we’ll have a really good start to the new season and then you never know where that takes you, it’s a good group of lads and we’ll make sure that we’re fighting to win each game.”
