First professional contracts for scholars

28 June 2019

Danny Walker-Rice, Bailey Thompson, Bayleigh Passant and Carl Spellman have all signed their first professional contracts with the Club.

Midfielder Walker-Rice may be remembered by the SWA after scoring a fantastic goal in pre season last season against Dunfermline.

Bayleigh Passant has appeared on the bench in the EFL Trophy last season whilst striker Bailey Thompson enjoyed a loan spell at Cammell Laird.

Spellman has played in a number of positions so far for the U18s, with some dominant displays in defence.

Youth team manager Andy Parkinson knows exactly what it takes to make it as a professional. He said "It's really good news, congratulations to them.

"We had four out of the eight second year scholars from last year earn professional contracts so that is a big positive for us.

"The hard works starts now for them. We want players to come through and play 100 plus games for the first team, that's the objective for us. We want the players to make their debut and sustain that by keeping themselves in the Gaffer's plans."
