Pringle taking each game as it comes

14 March 2019

Midfielder Ben Pringle feels that it is a case of Tranmere Rovers taking it game-by-game as their quest for promotion from League Two continues with a visit to Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

Pringle, who returns to Boundary Park in a Rovers shirt this weekend after spending last season on loan at Oldham, with Micky Mellon’s men aiming for a sixth-straight win in the fourth-tier.

Tranmere, who are fifth, moved to within four points of the top three following a 4-1 victory over Grimsby Town under the Prenton Park floodlights on Tuesday night.

And Pringle, on loan at TRFC from Championship club Preston North End, says that Rovers will focus on each game as it comes.

Pringle said: “I think you have got to take each game as it comes, obviously everyone is aware of the situation but from my point of view I’d rather be where we are than a few teams above us, who are kind of looking over their shoulder.

“It is a nice position to be in, but it doesn’t mean anything unless we match the results so hopefully it continues.

“You look at the potential in the squad and this is where I believe that we should be, we’ve ground some good results out, at home we’ve been really good, so we have just got to keep going.

“You have got Nors (James Norwood), and you feel every time he shoots, he is going to score, it’s great to have Connor Jennings, he runs about and scores goals. Everyone is contributing something from their own position so it’s really good.”

Rovers’ last away day came in a 1-0 victory at Exeter City at the beginning of March, and Pringle is confident that he and his team-mates can match the result on Saturday in Greater Manchester.

He added: “We know when we are playing away that we are going to get a good following, recently we have nicked little 1-0 victories which are really important and good to play in.

“If we can keep the score at nil from the defensive side, we are more than confident that we can nick one at the other end.”
